Compiling and running the client on Widows xp

Basically I want to set up a local server for the kids, and want to do it on a windows xp machine we have spare because it has no internet connection, but does have an old wifi router connected to it. (ie, the kids can't burn through our limited download capacity by connecting to the machine, like they could with any other computer we have here)
 
As long as it's not connected to the internet in any way, have at it. Just keep in mind that Windows XP is way out of support and super-the-hacked now.
