So far I've tried VidCoder and XMedia, neither of them are working.
Any suggestions for free and reputable programs ?

Hope you find those useful. I used to rent vcd/dvds and rip them for watching them on the phone during commute. This way I am sure to return the discs and not pay a penalty fee=D

I used Handbrake more and if I remember correctly, there were some videos on youtube for basic setup/operation.

Thank you Crome~

Reason is my phone does support MKV but it makes the anime I watch out of sync with the audio but the mp4 works. Now I have to figure out if can rip Bluray haha.

I downloaded and installed HandBrake... and got the 'yoursites123' browser hijacker. There were no options during the install (most have addons you can turn down). Still trying to get rid of it...

I use FFmpeg for all my conversion, cutting, resizing, cropping, video, audio, etc needs. It is one of the very best.
https://www.ffmpeg.org/about.html

It's command line based so don't expect a gui. But it can do just about anything and everything.
definitely not for beginners but you can google almost everything you want to do, otherwise it has very good documentation on it's capabilities.

Hi Tukaram,

Terribly sorry to hear. I have not used Handbrake since highschool and there weren't any additional options during the installation back then. Try Adwcleaner and Junkware Removal Tool:
https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/
http://thisisudax.org/downloads/JRT.exe

Tutorial on how to use both on article:

This worked for me 2 weeks ago when I had re-image repair software pop ups whenever I was browsing.

Best regards
