The Expanse has been open to the public since 2011. Over the years, more and more content has been added, improved upon and recreated. Of the content that originally came from the RunUO/ServUO community, all of it has been customized for The Expanse. Starting with an OSI-base, over 285 custom systems have been added to enhance gameplay, not cripple it. The custom client is required to fully enjoy everything The Expanse has to offer. In addition to a custom client, The Expanse offers full forum support (including tons of FAQs), a zoommable Treasure Hunter's map on the website, and our very own online and in-game Bestiary! The Expanse website contains vast amounts of data, including screenshots and general information about content that is available. You have to play it to believe it!

EDIT: 5-1-2017
The Expanse will be offline for an undetermined amount of time, until a new hosting solution can be found. Development will continue on The Expanse Desktop, and updates will be published via: The Expanse forums (The Expanse website and all contents will remain online), @Raist77 Facebook page, and @Raist_TE on Twitter.

Current Patch: 2.0 - Atlantis and Ultimate Animal Fighting Championships (beta release live)
ELD: January, 1st, 2017

Patch 2.0 Notes

New Content

.
Malas - Gravewater Lake/Atlantis
Ever restless and yearning for adventure, Jonesy Ford set forth from Gomzul and traveled to Gravewater Lake. Evidence had come to light concerning the whereabouts of a lost, underwater civilization. These beings were said to be made entirely of water! They also had complete control over the water realm and were protected by an ancient goddess, Amathaunta. Many ships have been lost to the depths in search of such foolish pursuits, but Jonesy never fails in his endeavors and has in fact discovered the lost, underwater civilization!

NPCs
Three new monster animations added
New Faction: Atlanteans
New Faction: TriFords*

Brief Overview: Towards the center of Gravewater Lake in Malas, there is a swirling vortex of water. Players may exit their ships and enter the vortex to proceed into Atlantis. Once inside the small city, players will find no friends among the Atlanteans, so be prepared to defend yourself. Several new monsters have been added for this expansion as well as 53 new Hues. Citizens are protected by the goddess (she can summon water vortexes to help) and will call guards to aid in their defense. Players may gather materials to summon Amathaunta and attempt to defeat her. Guards in the area can carry such materials.
(*The previous Jonesy Ford quests, i.e. Raiders, Temple of Doom, etc, will now reward points for TriFords faction.)
Special Thanks: To my friends at AtA for allowing me to use their Atlantis buildings! Huge help!

2.
Enhancement Type
All items that can be Spellcrafted/Imbued/Empowered will now display the Enhancement Type under the name in a given color ([Spellcrafted], [Imbued], [Empowered]). The properties of the item will also be colored ([Spellcrafted Properties], [Imbued Properties], [Empowered Properties]) according to which Enhancement Type was used. Spellcrafting has been re-adjusted to allow for Artifacts to be utilized again, but there is still a max of 5 properties allowed for any item. The minimum Inscription and Alchemy required to Spellcraft has been increased from 50 to 65.
Item List
No new items were added for this change.
How It Works: The Enhancement Type forces an item into a particular category. Items that were Spellcrafted cannot be Imbued/Empowered, items that were Imbued cannot be Spellcrafted/Empowered, etc. You can always continue using the Enhancement Type you started with, you just can't switch back, at this time.

(Enhancement change: Left to Right: Unenhanced, Imbued, Spellcrafted, Empowered)
  • Improved RAFT
RAFTs may now hold Reward Scrolls, Tokens and Silver and allow any amount (assuming you have that amount available) to be withdrawn (Gold Checks, Silver Checks, Reward Scroll(s), Currency Token(s), or Betting Slip. You may also utilize your RAFT for gambling during certain events (Note: you must withdraw the amount you wish to gamble in the form of a Betting Slip for some events).
Item List
No new items were added for this change.
How It Works: Reward Scrolls can be deposited into a RAFT with drag/drop. Withdraw any amount you have available. To gamble with your RAFT, simply select the Betting Slip to withdraw the amount and give it to a Bookie. When the event is over, if you won, you will see how much you won under the Gambling section. Just click the amount and have it added directly to your RAFT. Player Vendors and NPC Vendors will withdraw directly from your RAFT, but not deposit to it, except items in the Reward House. You must have your Reward Scrolls in your backpack or bankbox. (Note: There are three new buttons: Check, Reward Scroll, and Betting Slip. You have to select which type you are going to withdraw. Creating a Check (Gold or Silver) or Betting Slip will consume one note page per transaction). Some instances of gambling will be done automatically (for example, gambling on the Ultimate Fighting Animal Championships is handled without needing a Betting Slip, see section F below). The RAFT also has a built-in Gold Sweeper and tokens are added automatically when using the Trash 4 Tokens backpack. Players may swap their tokens from the Token Ledger to their RAFT, but tokens will only be added to the RAFT.

(Improved RAFT)
  • Ranged Weapons & Instruments
Due to a catastrophic accident in the Luna Crafter's Guild, ranged weapons were not retaining the color of the wood they were being crafted from. Strangely enough, this also prevented instruments from retaining the hue of the wood and also prevented anyone from engraving it.

Item List
No new items were added for this change.
How It Works: Ranged weapons and instruments have been adjusted so that when crafted, they retain the color of the wood that was used. In addition, instruments may also be engraved, simply use the Wooden Container Engraving Tool.

3.
  • Underwater Retrieval
Will Stray is camped out in the Crow's Nest of the HMS Effort, that has been sitting at the bottom of Gravewater Lake for eons. He and his dad were exploring the wreckage and collecting samples of Water Serpent Venom, when they were attacked by strange, blue beings. Forced to make a quick retreat, they left behind some important research.
Item List
Water Serpent Venom
Water Logged Notebook
How It Works: Players will have to acquire the items on Will's list to receive their reward and a chance at a Map of Atlantis. Completing this quest also rewards TriFords faction points.

  • Rest in Peace
Commander Lieutenant Jimmy Cooks' spirit has been tied to the fate of the HMS Effort. He hopes that in defeating Amathaunta, he will be allowed to finally know peace, but first, he requires some items in order to summon the ancient water goddess.
Item List
Atlantean Coin
Atlantis Talisman (needed to travel to Amathaunta's domain)
How It Works: Gather the items Lt Cooks needs in order to craft the talisman that will allow a player to travel to Amathaunta's domain and attempt to defeat her. Completing this quest also rewards TriFords faction points.

  • Escorts - Atlanteans Faction
The Atlanteans wish to poison water sources, starting in Minoc. Look around for Tiki heads throughout Atlantis and help escort a poisonous fish to Minoc.
Item List
No new items were added.
How It Works: Walk around near the Tiki heads in Atlantis and a tiny, poisonous fish will appear. Escort it to Minoc to complete the objective. Each escort to Minoc also gives Atlantis faction points.

  • Escorts - TriFords Faction
Trapped behind, what is now, enemy lines, several of Jonesy's interns were taken captive by the Atlanteans and subject to unspeakable acts of torture, or so we assume. Bust into their pitiful jail and rescue the poor, helpless interns!
Item List
No new items were added.
How It Works: Enter the Atlantean jail and accept the escort quest to wherever the intern needs to go. Upon arriving at the destination, players will receive their rewards, and TriFords faction points.

4.
  • Reward Scroll Rewards
Players will now receive X Reward Scrolls for consecutive time spent logged in to The Expanse.
Item List
No new items were added for this change.
How It Works: As long as a player is logged in on a character and playing, Reward Scrolls will be deposited to that character's bank box every hour.

  • Battle Chicken Lizards
Chicken Lizards running around in Ter Mur are tired of being oppressed and are fighting back with their army of highly-trained, skilled-assassins of stealth; Battle Chicken Lizards!
Item List
Chicken Coop updated to support Battle Chicken Lizard, Chicken Lizard, and Chicken.
Scale Collar (for quickly taming a Battle Chicken Lizard)
Incubator (for maturing your chicken lizard eggs up to 120 hours)
Chicken Lizard Egg (dropped from a tame or wild chicken lizard)
How It Works: Players may kill a wild Chicken Lizard (found only in Ter Mur) or tame one to have a chance on getting a chicken lizard egg. Tame chicken lizards must be fed like any other pet, but only bonded ones have the greatest chance to drop an egg after being fed. If a chicken lizard does not drop an egg after feeding (once every 24 hours and it has bonded), put it back in the stable and wait until the next day to try again. Once you get a chicken lizard egg, open your incubator and drag the egg inside. Within the first 24 hours you will need to water the egg(s), make sure they are "moist", and then continue to water them at least once a day until they become "mature". When an egg has matured, remove it from the Incubator (allow around 120 hours for full maturization) and take it outside of your house (chickens, chicken lizards, and battle chicken lizards cannot be hatched inside of a house) and double click the egg. Depending on the type of egg you hatched, you can use your Scale Collar to attempt to "catch" the chicken/chicken lizard/battle chicken lizard and then tame it. Once tame you may treat them like any other pet, but only bonded chicken lizards/battle chicken lizards have a chance to drop an egg that could hatch another battle chicken lizard when fed.
Chicken Coops are for stabling chickens/chicken lizards/battle chicken lizards. You cannot stable a shrunked pet. Shrunken chicken lizards/battle chicken lizards will not create eggs, they must be stabled for at least 24 hours. (NOTE: Chicken Lizards and Battle Chicken Lizards do not eat the same types of food.)

  • Frost Orcs & Snow Globes
The Frost Orcs that live in Winterspur in Tokuno have gotten their grubby, little hands on an Apprentice Mage's spell book. The Royal Britannia Court of Mages has been monitoring the situation and so far, have reported the spell usage is not an immediate threat, but that some Snow Globes have been "altered".
Item List
No new items were added for this change.
How It Works: Frost Orcs in Winterspur have the chance to drop a Random Snow Globe deed. When this deed is double-clicked, it will add a random snow globe to your backpack. Snow Globes have also been changed to appear in 6 different hues (so it is possible to have 6 different hues for each Snow Globe and there are 100 Snow Globes). Previously, double-clicking a snow globe did nothing. This release has changed that and now when a snow globe is double-clicked, a window will appear with a message and a snowy scene. There is a random chance that clicking the snowy scene will give out 1 Reward Scroll, but it could also Freeze you in place for 5 seconds (you will still get 1 Reward Scroll for being frozen).

  • Ultimate Animal Fighting Championships
Jhelom, known for generations for the infamous "fighting pit" in the center of town, has taken another path in armed/unarmed combat with: Animal Fighting. The best part is, you get to bet on who wins! Several animal breeders have been brought in to train: Pigs, Hell Hounds, Miasmas, and Ancient Wyrms, in 1-on-1 combat. As if this wasn't enough, in true gladitorial-style, several different types of traps have been added to each animal fighting pit. Appearing randomly around the enclosure, players/animals will see: Poisonous Gas traps, Spike traps, Flame Column traps, and Saw traps.
NPCs
Fighting Pigs
Fighting Hell Hounds
Fighting Miasmas
Fighting Ancient Wyrms
Converted Jonesy Interns*
How It Works: Look for the Ultimate Animal Fighting Championship stones in various fighting locations around Jhelom (Fel and Tram). Double click the stone to place your bet (hovering over the stone will tell you the cost to play/bet). Once your bet is placed, you must wait for another player to join, until the Maximum Player count has been reached. Winners receive the entire pot! Players with RAFTs will be able to place their bets and gamble on any animal fight using the Gambling section in their RAFT. Currently there are 4 different animal fight types: Pigs, Hell Hounds, Miasmas, and Ancient Wyrms. The bet amounts increase as tougher animals are involved (i.e. Pigs are ~500gp, Hell Hounds are ~800gp, etc).
(* Jonesy Interns that were captured by the Atlanteans, are converted into warriors and sentenced to death by combat, but you can still gamble on their matches. The Atlantis Gladiator Arena is located between the sunken HMS Effort, and the entrance into Atlantis.)

  • Bandages
Through intensive research by the Luna Traveling Nurses Guild, a way has been discovered in which a used bandage could be washed out and used once again!
Item List
No new items were added.
How It Works: If you use a bandage, there is a chance to recover a blood-soaked bandage. Double-click it and target a water source. A clean bandage will be added to the stack of bandages in your backpack or a new stack will be created if there are none.

  • BODs
Carpenters and Fletchers have been looking to capitilize on the success the Tailors and Blacksmiths are getting from small and large Bulk Order Deeds.
Item List
Small Carpenter Bulk Order Deeds
Large Carpenter Bulk Order Deeds
Small Fletcher Bulk Order Deeds
Large Fletcher Bulk Order Deeds
Blacksmith & Tailor Bulk Order Book
Carpenter & Fletcher Bulk Order Book
How It Works: Carpenters and Fletchers will now give out BODs for their respective craft, just like Tailors and Blacksmiths. NOTE: Carpenter and Fletcher BODs have been added to the Ultimate BOD Storage.

5.
  • Bank Storage Increase Deeds

Item List
Bank Storage Increase Deed (+25)
Bank Storage Increase Deed (+50)
Bank Storage Increase Deed (+100)
How It Works: "10th Year Vets" have the option of picking from the newly added Bank Storage Increase Deeds. When used, that character's bank storage will be increased by the amount of the deed (25, 50, or 100). It is character specific and only 10th Year Vets may use the deed. Veteran Reward ranks are earned every 30 days, i.e. 1st 30-Days = 1 Year Vet Rewards, 60-Days = 2 Year Vet Rewards, etc. Characters may use all three deed types, but the total increased amount will not exceed +275 (total amount if all three deeds were used on one character). If you select a bank storage increase deed and you are already at the max, you will be notified that you cannot increase your bank box's storage and the deed will delete.
(Note: Players may request to have a Staff Member verify their bank storage prior to using a deed. Please send Raist a PM via The Expanse forums with your request.)

6.
(see sub-section L in the Change Log for a detailed list)

  • Crafting System Adjustments
All of the custom crafting systems (as well as custom crafts added to OSI crafting systems) have been reevaluated and had the materials/requirements adjusted.
Item List
No new items were added.

Change Log

Three new factions have been added: Players, TriFords, and Atlantis. Players may also now access the Faction window by typing [factions.
Player Vendors and NPC Vendors will now deduct the bill amount from your RAFT or bank box, with the exception of the items in the Reward House. You need to have Reward Scrolls in your backpack or bank box to purchase Reward House items.

This item now includes all the functions the regular decorator has as well.

This item will now subtract the balance for Yard Items from either your RAFT or your Bank Box
(Note: The gold must be loose, not in check form in your bank box).

This item has been adjusted to now require at least 1 point in Animal Taming in order to use it on a pet. This will ensure that players with low Animal Taming can still shrink their Battle Chicken Lizards.

  • (Pets)
The Greater Britannia Organization for the Rejection of Cruelty to Animals has deemed that pet kennels are not a humane form of boarding for pets and they found the name "kennel" offensive. As such, the objects formerly known as Kennel/Pet Key, shall now be referred to as "Animal Hostels" and come in the form of a portable housing unit for your pets. (Note: "Grandfathered Pet Key" owners will still see Pet Key when the gump opens, which was apparently the cause of a former apprentice mage and O.R.C.A. would like to deeply apologize to their fellow supporters)(Note: Note: Not really, we were just pandering to the masses, to try and, well it doesn't matter, ahem, "On with the Patch Notes!"...)

The player house mail boxes and large mail boxes have been changed slightly and adopted a more "mail box" look. Player house mail boxes may also be turned after placement inside your house. (Note: Again, we the Greater Britannia O.R.C.A. would like to apologize for the above apology, and once again, welcome to the Patch Notes!

  • - Secret Room Quest
A new quest has been added to allow players to complete the "Lamp Room" puzzle, just by completing the quest. Players will be required to collect 2,000 Daemon Bones and a remote switch that was taken by a Patchwork Skeleton near Victoria the Sorceress. Completing the quest will reward the player with a Remote Switch, which can be double-clicked, to gain access to the Secret Room. This quest is repeatable once every 24 hours. Players will still need to have high enough skill in Stealing to take any of the artifacts. Players are advised to check the Secret Room prior to completing the quest to be sure an artifact is there, as artifact spawn times remains unchanged.

  • - Kill Count Window
Players that are in the Greek Underworld will now see a small window with the Current Kill Count and the total kills needed to begin the gauntlet. This window is movable, but refreshes every second (If you drag the window to move it and it refreshes, you will have to move it again).

  • - Fire Rock Materials
Previously, none of the Fire Rock materials could be stored on any of the universal storage items. Now Fire Rock materials may be added and removed from the Ingot Storage item. (Note: This change caused the shape of Fire Rock, both large and small, and Crystalline Fire to change and become stackable. Any players having issues with Fire Rock not stacking, please PM Raist via The Expanse Forums).

  • - Humanoid/Animal Lore Issue
Previously, if a player used Mimic and targeted a humanoid creature, the pet would adopt that body, but the player would be unable to use Animal Lore on it. These particular body values have been added to the list of creatures you cannot extract Mimic DNA from. This applies to Mimic DNA only!

  • - Mini Champ Spawns
The Passage of Tears (Acid Elemental Renowned) and Crimson Veins (Fire Elemental Renowned) mini champs in Stygian Abyss have been moved to more OSI-accurate locations.

Below is the complete list of changes to each crafting system.
All crafting systems using Boards, will now inherit the color of the board being used.
