Hey guys,

I got a bit stuck in doing graphics. Since I like to have as much stuff as possible I would really appreciate some impressions of what you really miss in UO. Some of them I will release as soon as possible, some I would like to release after the start of our project.
Actually I am in the northern regions, so we will get some nice dragon boats, some celtic and viking style carvings, woodwork like the dragon heads on top of the houses, something like icelandic style houses with gras on the roofs and of course whale bones and stuff... But I am coming to an end, so I would like to read what you really miss and what you need... :D

Please give me some hints!

Well since the ML+ content tends to be ... ugly a redesign of those would be awesome ;) but in general some realistic looking armor, weapons and maybe boat parts (yes the HS boats are fun but dont really fit into the art style of UO in my opinion) and the cannons ... :) .

Hope those ideas actually are in anyway helpful to you :)

Some tiles that are mixes between snow and grass (basically tundra), so we can make easier transitions between nordic terrains.

New pine trees would be nice, but maybe not like those christmas trees, more like that:

Some ice graphics, both terrain and some statics.

Some rocks in flowing waters, as the stock rocks doesn't look pretty in rivers.

Some wooden/stone sculptures.

New hairs would be cool.

Mix between leather and chain.

Mix between cloth and leather or something like that (includes a helmet)

Different shields, composite between wood and metal with pretty style, some shields with draws etc.

More helmet styles:
Not sure if those are all legit but meh, they are pretty.

More stylish jewelry (including bracers and hand jewels), i was all excited about that new SA necklace, so i guess new ones wouldn't be bad.

So ya.
That's what i'd love to see in such type of environment.
I hope that's enough inspiration xD

My self and other people who work on maps have always felt there is a lack of dungeon/cave art in the game.
I find myself reusing the same old rocks or rotted furniture. I've tried to think outside the box but it's pretty hard. Most caves are just rocks so it's hard to get any other palette then gray and brown.

I day dream of and find things on the net daily that I'd add to UO. The problem is that uo is always 2-4 times too slow to add a lot of these things in great detail. So I never pursue adding them in fear that it will become a blurry mess and i'll be playing with single pixel colors trying to get detail in something that isn't there.

I have hundreds of unique armour and weapon pictures that could be added to uo but they'd all have to be shrunken down and sacrifices to details would be made.

Oh and things I see in tv shows like Vikings or Game of Thrones certain decorations on the walls or things in the rooms I think about what it could look like in UO.

I love UO and it's engine but there are limitations one cant get past and moving to a full 3d engine you lose some of UO's magic.

Edit: Another source of inspiration is other games that have a unique universe. Some people may not like this but... Warcraft has a fairly unique universe with architecture and armour designs that you don't see in other games. Another universe, One that I'm super keen on is the Warhammer (& 40k) universe it contains such rich lore and the illustrations seem to pop off the pages of the rule books. Dungeons and Dragons has a lot of neat stuff but most of it has already made its way to being recreated. Not all of it though.
I take a lot of inspiration from Baulders gate, Icewind dale, eye of the behold, lands of lore, everquest, and so many other classic pc games.

Well then.. gumpart will have to wait, this is at the bottom of my list... So some trees would be ok to do... I also wanted to do some documentation how I do them.. But I fear what you need is something that fits more to the style of UO... Have you ever taken a look on Eri's site? http://www.uo-pixel.de There you will find tons of new stuff, even trees... Also there is a lot to find fitting the common OSI style within the old files of middle earth an in the rest of the leftovers... http://uome.uodev.de/index_eng.html

Be free to have a look there first... I sent all of my stuff to Eri, so there you can find a lot of gumpart I did in the last 5 years...

:)
