Anyone who played during the early days of the first UO shards surely feels nostalgic for that era and its style of gameplay!
This project was born from that feeling—I’m bringing back the true spirit of Ultima Online, creating a Renaissance-style shard just like in the early years of the game.
I’m rebuilding the SphereServer 0.51a mechanics on a ServUO base to create a shard that’s faithful to the Renaissance expansion, where gameplay is smooth, hardcore, free, and skill-based, just as it was back then.
Why recreate SphereServer mechanics on ServUO? What’s the point?
While ServUO is a more modern and reliable emulator, the old SphereServer 0.51a mechanics—especially for PvP—made the gameplay much more fluid and enjoyable!
UO Renaissance, but without Trammel — why?
The earliest shards didn’t include the Trammel map, and even today, though it’s part of the Renaissance expansion, with so few active Ultima Online players left, including Trammel would split the player base and harm gameplay.
Right now, the project is about 80% complete.
All the major gameplay code adjustments are in place.
Here are some of the key features:
Why limit players to 2 accounts and 2 characters, when many shards allow 3 or more?
The reason is simple: when players can do everything solo, the world becomes empty, cities become lifeless, players stay home farming, and cooperation fades away.
Remember how Ultima Online was at the start? A vibrant world full of players collaborating, trading, stealing, and battling each other.
This shard aims to bring back that lively, cooperative Britannia.
Another issue is that players often ghosted to spy on others’ moves.
This unfair practice will be banned, so the server includes an anti-ghosting system.

- UOR-OSI Mining System (Ore drops based on skill, not veins)
- Renaissance materials for armor and weapons with different AR and damage
- Archers can shoot while moving
- Casters can cast spells while moving
- PreCast without decay
- Classic Reflection (doesn’t absorb, but reflect one spell)
- Classic Defensive Spell System (reflection and other defensive spells can be cast on other players)
- Classic Healing System (Faster)
- Polymorph affects your stats
- Old Animal Taming System (taming is required only to tame animals, NOT to ride or use creatures)
- Skill cap: 700
- Stats cap: 225

- Decorators: to set up furniture and spawn points
- Experienced old-school players: for testing, balancing, and feedback
- GM/Event masters (future role): serious, mature, and dedicated individuals
