and for God's sake don't write such a phrase as "this is not my discord" :D
@SeifUO

I'm just curious—do you actually know of many real cases where someone faced any kind of responsibility for a DDoS attack on an Ultima Online server? Or even on any other private server?
I'm not even going to mention "prison"—that's just laughable :D
I'm wondering who that naive nonsense was even aimed at?
I'll try to find some free time and look up the logs from that attack, which just happened to coincide with your spam—specifically right after I came to your channel and expressed my dissatisfaction, and also posted here on the forum.
But in your opinion, it couldn’t have been you—because you're such a wonderful, law-abiding citizen, right?
And according to your logic, my server has probably been getting DDoSed every day for the past four years, and I just randomly decided to go after you now? :D

P.S. Before you showed up, as practice has shown, there simply wasn’t anyone in the whole wide world with so little to do that they’d first spam a server with 20 people on it and then attack it :D
There just weren’t people like that—no attacks either.
Honestly, I even feel a bit sorry for you :)

I am not really sure the point of this thread...as it makes me feel like I felt when I started watching Shameless on season 6 and I didn't know what was going on because I missed 5 years. Like I walked in on the middle of a conversation. Are you working toward some sort of social justice here?

It’s pretty amusing, honestly :)
But none of this would’ve happened if, in the previous thread where the conversation started, all the messages hadn’t been deleted for some reason.
Here’s a quick summary of how it all began:
One user made a post promoting their own hosting platform for servers—basically like a ranking or listing—and SeifUO responded with something like, “We already have something like this, and this post looks more like spam.”
It just so happened that I saw this right around the time when the SeifUO character was actively spamming everyone in private messages on my Discord channel. So, remembering that, I replied with a saying along the lines of “Can’t see the log in his own eye,” since he was the one doing the spamming in his free time.
There was also another message from me that later got deleted too, which is why I decided to create a separate thread—to avoid messing up someone else’s topic.
Overall, I’m not looking for justice or anything like that.
I’ve just been laughing about this whole situation for days—the deleted messages and SeifUO’s overconfidence. Like a little kid, he suddenly switched on the “innocent and naive” act. A pathetic sight, really :)
So yeah, this thread is basically just a contribution to my good mood, in a way.
After all, I was still able to read even the deleted replies—thanks to email notifications :D

Well I am honest here, all this is is a collection assumptions.

I mean you are not the only shard that is getting ddosed, I am pretty sure the majority of shards that advertise are.
Even from well known and respected members that support other shard owners and so on.

Also it is kind of impossible to stop people that play on one shard to do something somewhere else. Thats not really in the realm of any shard owners power. If you get people in your discord that advertise another shard, thats annoying and sucks. But there are 2 ways to handle it.

1. Be confident in your shard, make sure your shard is the one that the players want to stay on
2. Get some auto moderation going to stop the advertisements

For the consequences of ddosing? I am not sure, never heard anything. But I am also not sure if anyone actually pursued that and informed the authorities.

Here are my thoughts.

1. They are probably not DDosing you. Esp with lately, a lot of different DNS routes have been having issues connecting to our servers and have recently just gotten better again, I would say it was probably the same issues there.

2. The guy is rude and has a problem with his server advertising. I have a lot of players who have left to play our server or who just get invites in a lot of different ways. You can see this on places where he puts a ! at the front of his names as well in rooms to promote his site using the play-uo.com, which is already trying to trick some into it being OSI itself. If you confront him, he will attack you as if he is quite the top places to be. But from players (a person with at tag poorbaby and other names) spending thousands of dollars for items/lands in his server just to have him never fix them and ignore their requests to fix broken areas shows a lot if true (I have not verified it but the person is pretty credible, although still a player that could be disgruntled).

3. There are a lot of ways to block most of his dirty advertising tactics.

Use automod in your discord to timeout and when using their websites.

But then, to block when they send invites. You can set your channels to require a "player" role, and then set 1 channel for new players with no role at all to view. Then set roles as players come in. This will stop them from being able to send invites or see anyone in the channels without a role being set, allowing you time to review every member that enters.

This is what we do, and we have not had many invites since. Thankfully, when we get an invite to anyone, I get players that send me a message to let me know.
