Considering migrating my ServUO from my Win7 desktop dedicated machine to a CLI only Linux deployment.

This should require a lot less specification and thus for the same cost I can either have a more powerful server, or, reduce server costs entirely.

Considering this as I'll be moving from private access/testing to public access shard.

Has anyone successfully migrated a shard? With the use of mono, could I replicate the entire ServUO folder?

Cheers!

It's not difficult at all. There are some tutorials here, and some caveats to keep in mind, as well as an outstanding bug

Whether this solution is for you or not would mostly depend on your familiarity with linux based systems in general (or willingness to learn) and also understanding that the target audience for ServUO is mostly windows, so there will be less support.

I have no issue with Linux itself, I use it daily both in hobby and job. I'm just trying to optimise the hosting requirement before I take the server public :)

Will read the links and see what's what.
