Whatsss going on Servuo?
Hope all is well.

Newbie here, stuck and trying to get some footing.
Reading through other peoples new player/new to servuo stuff and trying to figure out where to start and where the newbie area is, i found a few people replying to threads and linking to a "get started wiki" that doesnt seem to exist anymore, aswell as outdated and broken links in other thread from people helping new people get started.
If i may ask for some guidance?

Shorts of the Shortest, pretty much im New to UO, is there a place to start with Servuo that has brand new people in mind?
It feels like there are slight disconnects or common knowledge im not sure about when looking around for the "how to", like its setup asif i should know this stuff or atleast know what to look for when searching, am unsure when navigating this forum.
A few things that i can't seem to find, like:
*Client people are using?, there is a few threads with people linking to a storage of clients for whatever reason? im not sure if client version is a trading game within the forum.

-are the supported clients only within the "Resources" 3rd party? what i should be using? im not sure what version does what or where to look for that info.
-clients that let me use all the era versions?
-when people refer to a Client does that mean the full game?
*Any type of youtube video to get a server started, that helping hand to see someone do the thing and is current?
-iv googled around and not found anything recent, am not sure if im using the right terminology for newbie friendly guides on servuo.
*Get started Wiki? seen a few references to this but the links dont work.
*A beginner guide?

-if there isn't anymore, im hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get started.

Im full of questions but im keen to get started and hopefully find my way somehow.
In my head im hoping there is a stable world/client version and editor i can use without needing to worry about updating it like the broadsword launcher, something that i can use and learn with, but is still recent-ish or recommended.

Current progress:
  • Iv downloaded the broadsword launcher and installed.
  • have the ClassicUO launcher that has razor in it.
  • servuo github zip, installed.
  • visual studio community installed.
  • set servuo.csproj as the startup project.
  • downloaded a bunch of clients to see what the difference is. (so far unknown)
  • a handful of browser tabs with youtube videos on learning C#.
  • logged into the servuo server with 127.0.0.1 :2593.

I'v made it that far, but im stuck at the "am i doing it right? or is this an abomination of mixxed up methods that will cause my game to grow extra limbs and begin a rampage but i cant kill my own child! so let it burn... *hic*"
Like i don't wanna find out in a few months that iv done this backwards or used the wrong thing or something and there were better options that i was unaware of and for whatever imaginary reason the horror side of my brain will taunt me briefly each time i read another thread with links that dont work anymore or are outdated but i cant tell.

As a new player to UO in general, don't worry about any era or older clients, that is all for people wanting to relive a certain era of the game, ie: in the beginning the weapons and armor were named items and depending on there name determined the overall strength of the item, now its all numbers and %'s, other things that changed were systems, so if you never played before, you'll never know what they were like or even if you like them over where the game is now!

So with that being said, you look like your on the right track, you are just overwhelmed with the era stuff. So sit back and relax, the biggest hurdle will be learning to program if you want to edit the game to what you want, as it stands, you can type [createworld , that'll set up the game for you to play, make sure you make another account for your player, the one you set up to start the server is admin and will not be effected by anything in the game, as most systems only react to the player access level!

Also UO is free to play now so you can jump into official servers to get a feel for the game as I think it would be difficult to imagine changing something you don't know the workings of in the beginning! Play a character and feel what it is like to build the skills, move around the world, experience the game!

Well I hope that helped, if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I have a strange feeling that I do something wrong too, for example I have no roof tiles in custom house creation gump at all and it's doesn't matter what client or what version of ServUO I use. And other little things here and there. I think it's because UO and its tools is just... old.

Hello GoldDraco13
don't worry about any era or older clients
you'll never know what they were like or even if you like them over where the game is now!
That's what i want to know, seems alot of posts say to sit back and relax without telling people the stuff or pointing them to somewhere that can show them the basics of what is, this is what i was saying seems like the common knowledge that gets ignored and overlooked like it was a thing before and now is removed.
Then there is a bunch of clients around that i have no idea why they need them? some people talk about how they want specific versions but i cant find anything anywhere about them, tiz why i asked.

the biggest hurdle will be learning to program
you can type [createworld , that'll set up the game for you to play, make sure you make another account for your player, the one you set up to start the server is admin and will not be effected by anything in the game, as most systems only react to the player access level!
Thankyou that confirms 1 of the things.
The thing that gets me most frazzled is there is some things posted around that doesn't have broken links, but is years old, so without somewhere to know where to get started it all feels like im learning out dated stuff.

Also UO is free to play now so you can jump into official servers to get a feel for the game as I think it would be difficult to imagine changing something you don't know the workings of in the beginning! Play a character and feel what it is like to build the skills, move around the world, experience the game!

The Broadsword thing is free?
When i downloaded the client it was talking about a subscription?
After reading your post @GoldDraco13 i had a look for a Broadsword wiki, caught a few posts from places outside of here with links to UOguide.com, but wasn't really a guide, more like a history lesson with some beastiary, i left that website with more questions.. and the youtube videos on any of the subjects were almost all removed by the looks of things if they ever existed, the only things left on youtube were what people made to flex on how to solo something, idk.
I have a strange feeling that I do something wrong too, for example I have no roof tiles in custom house creation gump at all and it's doesn't matter what client or what version of ServUO I use. And other little things here and there. I think it's because UO and its tools is just... old.
Are you using ClassicUO?
It has options to turn off trees and a few other things, the other janky client before that didn't have those options.

I'll try to give you everything relevant, I've been an on/off active member of this community since 2004 and played UO since 1999!

For me, after falling in love with the game back in the day, I stumbled onto RunUO which is now ServUO, as most players of any era know, the game is never finished, it feels like the Canvas can be built on better, that is the hook we all feel! To make the UO we feel the game should be, others might want to go back and have an exact replica of certain eras, which in our gaming world today would be expansions, all the MMO's do this, so it should be easy to understand what era means when it comes to UO.

Here is a official summary of changes over the last decade!

As for ServUO, you are dealing with a community of people that either learning to teaching or both, ServUO is not perfect if compared to official UO, but it is better in that the sky it the limit once you understand programming in c# : since c# is evolving, so is the emulator, they are tied at the hip, so when it comes to programming, MS has it all, they have a tutorial series to can work through!

If you have any questions or get stuck, there is a community of people here that can help as we are all in the same boat!

Did you type all that out?
Where did you grab the summary from?

Appreciated, thankyou.
How long has Servuo been around, it reads like alot of the Servuo website was removed?
There are some tools with broken links aswell, some repositories empty or broken.
Was there a war or something within Servuo, feels like the library was torched?

My next step is to figure out where to look, to confirm what im using is good for me.
Servuo release 77.1 nov.16.2021
Client 7.0.91.15
ClassicUO Version 0.1.10.130

-i understand to use Servuo releases, because it only gets better and thats the only place to do this.
-i understand to use ClassicUO treleases, because it only gets better.
-im still unsure about the clients, do i look for release date of client then compare to the era like in the summary, or is there a reason for 20 different versions of 7.0#####

Look at it this way, ServUO is your server hosting UO based on the files provided from the UO client, on the player side, you need a UI, UOC or Razor, which is a UI using the files provided from the UO client! On each end, you need the client for its art and such, this is where it matters, for best results, they should match!

This has always been a cat and mouse game with OSI/Broadsword for the client, ServUO tries to keep up to the client as does the UI's, but they break at times when the official UO changes, specially on an expansion, thus these points mark where Server Version X will match Client Version X!

I would really try not to get yourself overwhelmed with these details too much as in the end, it is about having fun and enjoying the game which is as easy as what you have done already!

btw, I didn't write all that text, it was on the returning players tab in the players wiki on the UO site!

Not sure what your looking for on ServUO, but overtime everything changes, so what was relevant 10 years ago is not now in some cases, which could be why the links you find broken no longer work, or they could be pointing to external sites outside the control of this community!

ServUO > Client > Razor > 3rd Party Tools
Right? .. the client should match the art? i was with you until it looked like it skipped a bit.
From what i just tried with an old version to get Pandora to run i saw what you mean by ART.
Translates to something like you will see different things on the screen compared to other up to date clients, but the 3rd party tools used haven't been updated in many years and still use old clients.

I found 2 instances of client version information that iv been talking about, and it was with @Milva.
7.0.23.0 for using Pandora,
7.0.15.0 for using Fiddler,
Couldn't find anything on these 2 things that was up to date or new.
1 of the links in those conversations took me to a chinese pron website, like someone actively bought out the website the link went to and changed it, but kept the URL the same for the next generation of new people to Servuo.

I have no found the page that shows what Client version matches Server version yet.

Cool yeah i agree, not really trying to get myself stuck, but when i lose my keys i wanna be able to trace my steps.
I wouldn't call it easy to have to root around in everyone elses threads to find the 1 and only thing that can be still used since the purge, i feel more like a raccoon with stickytape.
Im betting that "get started wiki" was a god send of a site before it got torched.

btw, I didn't write all that text, it was on the returning players tab in the players wiki on the UO site!
aha right, the one place that was labelled to be not for me.

I mean.. iv said what i was after this whole time right?
i get that 10 years ago this place had things that have been deleted now for whatever reasons being that communities all go through a change if they live long enough, but usually when something is removed it's because something better took its place right?
I am trying to find the thing that took the place of what new people used to see when they joined and want to get into being part of the community.

This is not a product, but a project created and supported by the good hearted folks here in the community, over the 18 years I've been around, the "getting started" has been written by many of people and nuked on the site(s) for many of reason, if only the original RunUO site was still up, you want a wealth of info, imagine a forum where on average there were 100's of new posts a day! All that info lost to the ages! But one thing that hasn't, the getting started, it has always been roughly the same give or take a few technical steps, but again, this is a project that is community supported and everything brought to others by others, so some may call it a nuke of old info, I call it a past not forgotten as all that info lives on in the community, all you need to do is ask.

And I still am not sure where you are stuck, you seem to have everything going and already surfing for tools to edit the client files, your in my books, well on your way, far more so then some that have issues just getting the server compiled!

Anyways, that is all I can offer on this, and I think the biggest take away, just ask, it might take a little while to get a answer but either you'll solve it in the meantime or the answer will come!

Alright cool, it feels like its setup to ask like that, why i was looking for the collective of answered quests :) and wrapping my head around that there was a page with a collection but it was deleted.
The first impressions before talking to people gives me the feel of 2 wild animals, a raccoon and a crow, it would be hard to explain that pov to people that have been here for long enough.

Ah mostly.. the next step.
So.. world building and design i guess, and the tools that come with it, so what i was reading the only thing out there being Axis or Pandora.. and it has a box as a server.. haha i laughed when i saw whatever nutter crafted that thing, admin tools like ezily my next step.. having GM powers.. be like flying for the first time.

This is.. how i imagine it goes right?
using [Helpinfo and have been hunting around for what the params are.

ty for your time @GoldDraco13 .

params are extra information/checks or addons ie : '[tele' or add a prefix pram m for multi and now use '[m tele' to have the command repeat, you can also do '[delete' and target a single mob on screen with your target, or use '[Global Delete where basecreature' to delete the entire world of anything constructed from the basecreature script! This is just a taste of the command system, I myself am not even near as informed on it all as I should be but I feel you use the commands you need and learn the ones you don't need when you need them lol!

If you want to jump on my private server on sunday I can show you some of the in game creation stuf f and commands. My server isn't live, so it would just be us messing around. ( although I do plan on hosting a server eventually.) I am coming back to UO and being an admin after a long hiatus, so there are commands i have forgotten, but i know most of the basics still, and quick refreshers have jogged my memory. I am also new to servuo, but was familiar with run uo so its a bit like riding a bigger bike.
If you would prefer to set up your own server on a pc to mess around, I can also walk you through that step by step, although it is posted quite a few times in these forums. Im away from my server until sunday though, enjoying some r and r.

Ok sure, so they morph the command.
I assume the [helpinfo doesn't have all of them listed?
And the [GO] button doesn't accept the params you put in the box.

It is 4:14pm as i post this.

TBH, I never have used the box, I just type [m tele

just in the normal text area, not in the gump I mean, idk, am tired!
[HelpInfo is a guide to the commands in game, thats is how I used it, then I'd just type my commands in the normal text area ie :[m tele, [delete, [wipe, [move, [set x ###, [props
The more I think about it, I think that box is only to help you see or find the prams available for that command, like lego, it all works together but some don't work together! =p

Right, yeah haha i just dont wanna hit the wrong button thinking it meant something else, i dont think iv used the box either, iv tried.. but the GO button doesn't seem connected to anything other than performing whatever command the window has open, im not sure how to activate the params in the gump* text box.
Found this: RunUO Documentation - Commands
1 step closer to knowing how the world will end.

* GUMP is what we are calling all the windows that pop up ingame? odd phrase for a window?

Stumbled onto a few threads where they talked about:
GitHub - Vita-Nex/Core: A library of advanced features that push the limits of Ultima Online!
Seems to be around 4 to 6 years old, not sure if usable but done by @Voxpire , seen that name around a fair bit in the threads.
The core.. it speaks of a Fabled [mycommands searchable list.
-never mind it gave me 38 errors.

Run [DocGen when you're logged in-game, then browse the export in the /docs folder to find a complete command list.

The [go command accepts parameters/arguments such as map names, region names, or coords in the format (x,y,z) with brackets included:
Code:
[GO Felucca
[GO Britain
[GO (123,456,0)
[GO (123 456 0)
The full syntax is
Code:
[GO <name | serial | (x y {z}) | (deg min (N | S) deg min (E | W))>

All of those errors with Vita-Nex have been documented and handled in the Vita-Nex support forum.

The "getting started" wiki was taken down because it is no longer relevant; the readme.md in the github repo outlines the basic steps to getting started but assumes you already have UO installed.
We're in the process of a large software publish, so more helpful docs will be posted at a later date.

Oh hey,
Support
This is the support forum yea?

I deleted the [VitaNex] folder, and now when i try to run the server again i get this new popup:
devenv_2022-01-15_18-56-27.jpg
The github download said something about adding other directories first server startup attempt with the Core in the scripts directory, but doesn't tell me where those are if i wanted to delete them too?

That [DocGen is handy,

Im not sure where to look in the support, was hoping for a thread called "My 38 errors" but sadly.
Is this the fix thread?
VNC updated for ServUO pub58
It talks about publish 58 and im on publish 57.1
Seems others are experiencing errors and are trading a modified VNC file to bypass the errors?

It is 4:14pm as i post this.
I will be back home tomorrow. I am away for the weekend. I am usually on in the evening est

Every now and then the server locks up like this, i cannot input or type inside of it.
Trying to shutdown but wont let me use it.

2022-01-16_09-55-31.jpg

Only noticed it happening after i added the [Vita-Nex].

...clicking anywhere inside the console will cause it to pause; that's the same for any console application with Quick Edit mode enabled.

Ahh right, didn't know that was a thing.
Turned it off and it works much better, and now i know there is a console properties.

And most people Have this turned off yea?
I can't imagine it useful to pause a console app.

You probably wouldn't be surprised at the amount of people who have the same issue at some point :D

It's useful if you want to click and drag to highlight an area in the window, right-clicking will copy the selection and unpause it.

I probably should buy a course for c#, that should cover all of these basics right?
Am going to look over Udemy courses.

So the Default applies to all consoles.
Properties applies to only that console.

I have a newbie question. What is a proper way to control identity of the player-side clients? For now I can easily change or delete Prof.txt file and manipulate with professions at character creation.

Are you asking me? or hoping that someone capable of helping you reads my newbie welcome thread?
Either way im keen to see the answer to your question, i cannot help tho.

Well the client decides nothing, the server makes sure the data sent and received are ok.
If you change or delete the Prof.txt, all you do is change the presets that are presented to you by EA.

If you change client gaphics? You will see them different, the other players wont.
If you change the map, you wont be able to run to places you couldnt befor, the server will stop you.

Thats because there is an id, and the id you can see in createcharacter.cs as in what they would get
